We the People.... My Own Inaugural Presidential Reflection
As I watched today the broadcast for President Barack Obama's inauguration on television throughout this day, I saw a sea of people from the Washington Monument to the steps of Capitol Hill. The folks that I watched came from all over the country, all walks of life, have all faces of color occupying every square inch of the Washington Mall in the early hours of this memorable day; all wanting to be part of history.
I've never seen a country come together as one since 9/11 in unison, in partisan, hopeful and ready to take this country back.
What struck me most of President Barack Obama's inaugural speech were the simple three words - "We the People"
So it must be with this generation of Americans."
We the People have to face the "Change and Challenges" that will be ahead in the coming months and years. Are you ready?
We the People are the thinkers and doers of this great country, we can achieve the imaginable. Can you?
A lot of folks said that they never believed that they would see an African-American taking the oath of office for the President of the United States in their lifetime. I for one never gave it a second thought and truly believed that this would happen in my lifetime. Looking back at the night of the election waiting for him to give his victory speech to the thousands of people in Chicago, I contemplated about the future and challenges that "We the People" are faced with here in America and around the world.
I grew up in Germany, never experienced segregation and racism - so I can't really speak for those that stood ground and felt the pain and suffering. I can only listen to their stories and reflect upon and take a stand that this kind of history will never repeat itself.
Because of what he has shown so far, a nearly flawless primary election and a smooth transition; I've heard in the news today that people from around the world say that he is the World's President.
As I reflect today, it was - A day of hope - A day of unity - A day in partisan - A day in history!
America, are you ready to face the change and challenges - what you have to say?

Petra ... Especially today we celebrate this great USA democracy and the Inauguration of Obama as our next US President.
It's a great day to be an American .. for me and others who voted for another candidate. We will support Obama and hope he does a great job.
I disagree with you or those who would say that Obama "is the World's President". Be very careful with that. Obama is a man with a huge job. He is the Pres. of the United States and has a job unique for us and the citizens of this great nation. His job is to serve and protect the people of the United States of America ... not those of the world.
Best wishes. Harrison
Harrison - I truly value your opinion and your comment, however I did not say that he is the World's President. I stated that "I've heard in the news today that people from around the world say that he is the World's President."
Petra,
If you remember, the country came in unison after September 11, but the problem for us is that we are becoming an instant gratification nation with a very short attention span. If we are in the war, we want a blitzkrieg, if we are in crisis, we want it over in 2 months. So, are we ready for a long haul? We will see.
And to Harrison I want to say that I respectfully disagree. I find it very dangerous to think this way. The world is small now and the leader of the greatest country is and has to be the World President in a way, and maybe this was the weak point for Bush, who failed to engage the world the way we expected.
You can either manage to engage the world in a positive way and make it a great presidency, or ... go a failed route of isolationism.
Petra, it is all about We The People. United We Stand. I also agree with Jon it is a fine line between being respected around the world and being a World President. There is no such thing as a world president. Barack Obama is President of the United States.
The true strength of America has always been and will always be, WE THE PEOPLE. In trying times, effective leaders have always used this as a battle cry to rally WE THE PEOPLE, just look at FDR, JFK, RR, and now BHO. I believe that this President will have more we the people active in repairing America's ills than any President before him. I also believe that this President will be a huge factor is our re-gaining the respect of the rest of the world. Nicely done Petra!
Petra-this is an awesome perspective and I too believe that he is going to change many things in the world. JFK said his primary role was to maintain peace...that too me is a world leader...just like Barack Obama! I am excited already for some of things already happening...and I will do what it takes to get us there! I support him and I believe in the people...that is what really struck a cord with me....WE THE PEOPLE...I loved it and ate every word up!
