Today, I picked up guide/map of 2008 Polk County Public Shelter at Publix. It provides a list with a map and directions to the shelters. This guide also offers information, such as important telephone numbers and the following for Polk County:

  • Polk County Evacuation Policy in the event of a disaster.
  • Folks with medical and physical conditions who require assistance
  • 3-Day Survival Kit
  • Pet-Friendly Shelters
  • Sources of Emergency Information

Petra:

Excellent post --- very timely and informative.

One point: with so many short-term rentals in Davenport and the surrounding area, it could be very helpful for owners of these homes to leave instructions for their tenants visting from out-of-state and from overseas.  These people are relatively isolated compared to those staying in hotels along I-Drive and Hwy 192.  I can't imagine they'd know what to do or how to locate a near-by shelter if a storm was on its way.

Just a thought.....

Alison - Great point, you are absolutely right. It would also be a great idea with short term rental that the management company would leave instructions at the home and inform them at the time of move-in. Thank you for your comment.
