Annual Sun ’n Fun Fly-In Lakeland – Linder Airport Becomes the Busiest Airport in North America

Annual Sun n' Fun Fly-In Lakeland FloridaFor one week in April from 13th- 18th, Linder Airport will become the busiest airport in North America during the 36th annual Sun ‘n Fun Fly-In event held in Lakeland, Florida. It is estimated that this gathering will entertain about 170,000 visitors from around the county and the world.  The 2010 Sun ‘n Fun Fly-In event will be staged on 850 acre footprint of the Lakeland Linder Airport engaging all levels of aviation enthusiast, professional pilots, aviation students and kids of dreaming to fly an airplane, as well as folks who design, build and fly their own airplane.

What is there to see?

The open field of the airport will showcase world-class collection of vintage, one seated ultralights, warbrids, homebuilt, hot air balloon, military aircrafts such as the C-17, B-52 bomber and many more, which adds to this fantastic experience Sun ‘n Fun Fly-In visitor’s can expect to see throughout the week. Over 475 exhibitors will display their items and knowledge from manufacturers, various organizations, suppliers, avionics; pilot supplies just to name a few.

Sun n’ Fun Fly-In Entertainment for Everyone

  • The Thunderbirds will not go unnoticed in the skies of Lakeland as they’ll practice April 14th and 15th. They are scheduled to showcase their precision flying skills during their performance on April 17th and April 18th.
  • Daily Ariel Showcase Flying  - finest and largest display of aerobatic talent
  • Appearance of Jeff Skiles, the first officer of US Airways Flight 1549 – Miracle on the Hudson River
  • F-18 Hornet Navy demonstration
  • FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt will speak during the week at forums
  • An electric airplane will be part of the GreenSpace exhibit
  • Hot Air Balloon “Hare and Hound” race – April 17th

It has been a tough assignment the past year for teachers around Polk County with budget cuts in which teachers find themselves digging deep in their own wallets to keep the classroom running with necessary supplies. Throughout the month of August, MidFlorida organized “Stuff the Desk” – an opportunity for the community come together and drop off items for our teachers with Lakeland’s First Friday – “Salute to Educators” being a final collection.  Here are some suggestions to bring when you celebrate your children’s awesome teachers at this event:

Lakeland Florida Local Event - First Friday "Open Mic Night" - February 6, 2009

Downtown Lakeland First FridayAmerican Idol in Lakeland?  Well, I do know for fact that Lakeland has some great local amateur talents. As it is with every First Friday of the month, the Downtown Lakeland Partnership hosts this special free event at Munn Park. February's theme is "Open Mic Night"; local amateur musicians of all ages are encouraged to take part in this celebration on February 6th, 2009 to see, who will be voted the next "American Idol in Lakeland".

You, the public can purchase tickets for only 25¢ each Downtown Lakeland at a designated area.  Voting for your favorite artist is really simple. All you have to do is put as many tickets you have or want to give in the musician's tip jar, while listening to their favorite tunes along the side walk. So, who will be the next "Lakeland Idol" - only you can decide, so come on down and take part in this great event full of music and entertainment.

"Open Mic Night" is from 6:00-9:00pm - Shops and restaurants are open late and be sure to check out the Classic Car Show on Tennessee Avenue.
