Hampton Hills and Concerned North Lakeland Residents Meet the Press
Today I met with concerned residents of North Lakeland Hampton Hills Community as well as other residents neighboring the site proposed for the mixed-use housing development. They were interviewed by Rick Elmhorst, reporter for Bay News 9 television station about why they oppose the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter. Bob Page and his wife Amanda spearheaded this movement by having an online petition started and get the word out to the residents of Hampton Hills and other communities. They have already received over 300 votes, however 300 online signatures are not enough especially when the Lakeland City Commissioners vote to approve or disapprove the project on June 6th at the Lakeland City Hall at 9:00 a.m.
Residents are concerned especially when there is no guarantee that it will not impact the value of the properties surrounding the site, the fear of overcrowded schools, the fear of folks wandering the nearby communities, should they not meet Salvation Army's guidelines. There is no guarantee as Salvation Army can change its plans and this is the biggest fear for the residents of Hampton Hills and the surrounding communities.
From the real estate perspective, homes in the Hampton Hills Community have already suffered by foreclosures and short sales and there are still new homes being built.

Median Sold Price for REO/Bank Owned: $93,000
Median Sold Price for Traditional Sales: $154,495
